The Dodgers have made a roster move today, recalling outfielder/first baseman Scott Van Slyke from AAA Albuquerque and optioning infielder/outfielder Elian Herrera back down to AAA.
Van Slyke had been optioned to AAA just prior to Matt Kemp injuring his ankle and was not able to return for 10 days unless replacing an injured player on the roster. The Dodgers had activated Ted Lilly from the disabled list to replace Kemp, and were not able to bring up Van Slyke when they designated Lilly for assignment as he was not an injured player. Herrera only saw limited playing time during his most recent brief stint in Los Angeles.
Van Slyke returns to give the Dodgers another outfield option and a power bat off the bench. In 33 games this season, Van Slyke has come to the plate 87 times, hitting 6 homers and driving in 14 runs while batting .241 and also doubling 6 times.
Van Slyke will be available to play against the New York Yankees at Dodger Stadium tonight.
